Amedisys Rates Above the National Average on Key Metrics and Measures

First and foremost, our success is measured by the care we provide and the satisfaction scores we receive from patients and families. To that end, we have built a proven track record in home health, hospice and personal care services.

Home Health Care

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) posts Star Ratings for Medicare-certified home health agencies on its Home Health Compare website each quarter.

Quality of Patient Care Star Ratings: Home Health

Patient Care Star Ratings include outcome measures like improvement in ambulation, transferring and bathing, plus acute care hospitalization rates, and process measures like timely initiation of care, drug education and flu immunization. Amedisys is above the national average when it comes to quality of patient care.

Patient Satisfaction Star Ratings

Patient Satisfaction Star Ratings are calculated by CMS based on the Home Health Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HHCAHPS) Survey. These ratings include measures like the care received from the home health provider, communication between the home health agency and the patient, specific care issues including safety, pain management and medication, and an overall rating of care provided. Amedisys is above the national average when it comes to patient satisfaction.

Hospice Care

Amedisys ranks above the national average on Seven out of Seven Quality Measures for Patient Care.

Our hospice quality ranks above the national CMS average* on seven out of seven quality measures: pain screening, pain assessment, dyspnea screening, dyspnea treatment, patients treated with an opioid who are given a bowel regimen, patients asked about preferences for life sustaining treatments and patients asked about spiritual or religious concerns.

*CMS July 2015 –June 2016 data. CMS calculates these scores based on the Hospice Item Set, which includes patient-level data on specific quality measures.

Patient Care Experience

Amedisys ranks at or above the national average on Eight out of Eight Quality Measures for Patient Experience

Our hospice quality ranks at or above the national CMS average* on eight out of eight quality measures: hospice team communication, getting timely care, treating family member with respect, getting emotional and religious support, getting help for symptoms, getting hospice care training, rating of hospice and willingness to recommend.

*Data for deaths April 2015 – March 2016. CMS calculates these scores based on the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) CAHPS Hospice Survey, designed to measure the experiences of patients and caregivers with hospice care.

Physicians and Referral Sources Rate Us Highly

This survey of more than 770 physicians and referral sources for our patients measured our performance as their home health care provider. Deyta, LLC, a leading research firm, designed the online survey.

  • 98%  would recommend Amedisys to a colleague
  • 97%  rate quality of care as good or very good
  • 96%  rate communication as good or very good
  • 97% rate responsiveness good or very good
  • 96%  ease of referral as good or very good
