Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Paul Kusserow is Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Amedisys (AMED), a publicly traded, leading provider of home health, hospice, palliative, personal care and high-acuity care services with over 22,000 employees in 39 states and the District of Columbia, making over 12.3 million patient visits per year.
With 25 years of healthcare experience, Mr. Kusserow served as the Chairman of the Board for Amedisys prior to his return as Chief Executive Officer. A healthcare industry veteran with deep expertise in driving growth strategies, Kusserow served as President and Chief Executive Officer from 2014 to early 2022. Prior to that, he served as President and Vice Chairman of Alignment Healthcare, Inc, an integrated clinical care company focused on providing care to the Medicaid population. Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy, Innovations and Corporate Development Officer of Humana, Inc., a Fortune 75 healthcare services and benefits company.
Kusserow’s experience also includes time as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of the Ziegler HealthVest Fund; Managing Director of San Ysidro Capital Partners, L.L.C.; and Managing Partner of Roaring Mountain, L.L.C. He began his healthcare career with Tenet Healthcare Corporation, one of the nation’s largest investor-owned healthcare service companies, where he spent seven years, the last four as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Ventures. Kusserow is on the boards of Connecture (Nasdaq: CNXR), Oak Street (NYSE: OSH), Picwell, and New Century Health. Prior to Tenet, Kusserow was a consultant at McKinsey and Company, Inc. Kusserow received his Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and his Master of Arts from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
A deeply skilled strategist, Kusserow’s growth mindset was a critical and stabilizing force for Amedisys in his seven-year tenure as CEO. When he began at Amedisys in 2014, Kusserow helped stabilize the company and increase its market value. The company grew ten-fold under his leadership. His hands-on involvement helped rise Amedisys in the ranks of home health care, moving from 3.2 stars to 4.5-star reviews. As a thought leader and industry innovator in the home health space, Kusserow’s charisma, dedication, and investment to the success of Amedisys are just some of his greatest assets.
Acting Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Scott Ginn is Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and oversees all aspects of the company’s financial operations, capital and financing strategy, public reporting and investor relations.
Mr. Ginn has been a leader of the Amedisys financial team for 15 years. Most recently, he served as the company’s Chief Accounting Officer, overseeing all accounting operations, cost control systems and financial reporting. As Senior Vice President of Accounting and Controller and Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting at Amedisys, Mr. Ginn played a pivotal role in leading financial operations and building strong relationships with analysts, lenders and shareholders. In his various roles, he helped oversee the growth of the company from a $500 million organization to $2 billion.
Prior to joining Amedisys, Mr. Ginn served as a Director at Postlethwaite & Netterville, a professional accounting and business advisory firm. He is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Louisiana State University.
Chief People Officer
Adam Holton is Chief People Officer for Amedisys, responsible for enabling the culture, attraction, support and development of the people who provide superior quality of care during over 12 million patient visits annually.
Mr. Holton brings 20+ years of human resources leadership experience and possesses considerable C-suite experience. Prior to joining Amedisys, he served as the Chief Human Resources Officer at both Numotion, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities, and CHS, Inc., a F100 diversified global agribusiness cooperative that creates connections to empower agriculture. He also held HR leadership roles with General Electric, USAA and Bank One. Prior to that, he was a high school basketball coach and teacher.
Mr. Holton served for eight years in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Officer, stationed at Camp Pendleton, California and Quantico, Virginia. In 2004, he deployed with a Marine Corps reserve Infantry Battalion as a Company Commander to Lutafiyah, Iraq, about 20 miles south of Baghdad, as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Mr. Holton received his Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy and serves on the Board of Directors of Sierra Delta, a national leader for the education, advocacy, promotion and funding of the service dog industry that works to connect high-quality service dogs with veterans.
Chief Compliance Officer
Denise Bohnert is Chief Compliance Officer for Amedisys, managing the Company’s ethics and compliance program, which is designed to promote ethical practices and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Mrs. Bohnert brings more than 15 years of valuable healthcare compliance experience to the role. Prior to joining Amedisys in 2017, she served as the Compliance Officer for Signature HealthCARE, where she created and administered a compliance program for nearly 150 skilled nursing facilities and home health locations, and Division Vice President for Kindred Healthcare.
Mrs. Bohnert holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana State University and a Juris Doctorate from Indiana University School of Law with a Health Law Curriculum Designation. In addition to her Registered Nursing License and her Law license, Mrs. Bohnert also maintains her Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC).
Chief Information Officer
Michael North serves as Chief Information Officer for Amedisys, managing the company’s technology and analytics systems to support enterprise-wide operations and growth. He joined Amedisys in 2015 as Senior Vice President of Operations and led the integration of the company’s successful conversion to the HomeCare, HomeBase operating system.
Mr. North brings more than 30 years’ experience in integration, project management and process and system development. He most recently held leadership roles at Humana, where he oversaw the successful integration of numerous acquisitions and of shared service organizations within the company as a director in Corporate Development. Prior to that, he was integration leader for strategic acquisitions at Humana. Mr. North helped lead the creation of the Humana Vitality program, managed multiple acquisitions and worked on other company-wide initiatives.
His previous experience includes management roles at Kindred Healthcare, where he led clinical systems development for the company’s pharmacy line of business and the company’s other organizations. Mr. North holds an MBA from the University of Louisville in Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Illinois University.
Chief Strategy Officer
Nick Muscato is Chief Strategy Officer for Amedisys, overseeing the Company’s strategic initiatives and investments and investor relations function.
Mr. Muscato has led investor relations and strategic finance for Amedisys since 2015, serving as Senior Director of Corporate Development and Strategy, Chief of Staff and Vice President of Strategic Finance and, most recently, Senior Vice President of Finance. He has created and executed a comprehensive investor relations strategy that has forged invaluable relationships and enhanced the Company’s reputation while playing a pivotal role in strategic investments that align with Amedisys’ long-term strategy such as Contessa Health, which expands service offerings to high-acuity care in the home, ConnectRN and Medalogix.
Prior to joining Amedisys, Mr. Muscato was a corporate development leader at Humana where he lead acquisition in managed care, healthcare IT, data and analytics and provider businesses. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University and his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Louisville. Mr. Muscato serves on the Board of Directors for Medalogix and ConnectRN and is a graduate of the 2017 Nashville Healthcare Fellows program.
Interim Chief Legal Officer
Jennifer Guckert Griffin is Interim Chief Legal Officer for Amedisys, overseeing all aspects of the Company’s legal affairs.
Ms. Guckert Griffin brings 20 years of legal experience to Amedisys. She joined the Company in 2013 and has served in a variety of roles in the department with increasing responsibility, most recently rising to Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary.
Prior to joining Amedisys, Ms. Guckert Griffin focused her career on employment law and worked in the legal department of a publicly traded engineering, procurement, and construction company and at regional and national law firms. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Mississippi. Ms. Guckert Griffin is a graduate of the 2022 Nashville Healthcare Fellows program.
