Bill Borne founded Amedisys in 1982 and serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Formally trained as a nurse, Bill is an advocate for the nation’s elderly population and is passionate about delivering health care to elderly patients at home. Under his leadership, Amedisys has grown to deliver personalized home health and hospice care to more than 35,000 patients in their homes each day.
His commitment to providing high-quality, innovative health care made the company one of the first in the industry to integrate innovative technology including point-of-care laptops and an internet portal for physicians, enabling real-time coordination of care. Under his leadership, Amedisys has also launched an advanced chronic care management program, designed to provide more intensive health care services for chronically ill, high-risk patients.
Amedisys has also led the development of the first nationally standardized Care Transitions program, designed to reduce unnecessary hospital readmissions through patient and caregiver health coaching and care coordination.
Bill serves on numerous boards and committees to promote wide-ranging improvements in health care. He has also campaigned for quality improvement processes to transform the way care is delivered to elderly patients. This commitment led him to become a founding member and Chairman of the Board for the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation, a national consortium of home health care organizations and providers that raises awareness about home health care and its proven ability to deliver quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care for patients.
Bill is a leader and an expert in health care delivery for the elderly, serving on The Wall Street Journal CEO Panel on Health Care Transformation, the Marwood Group Advisory Panel and many others.
Bill has also led Amedisys to the top of many organizational honors and awards and has personally received the Baton Rouge Business Report’s 1990 Young Businessperson of the Year and 1990 Entrepreneur of the Year, Forbes 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year, and the 2004 Guardian Angel Award from the Caring Institute. In 2009, Mr. Borne was appointed to the E.J. Ourso College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council and inducted into the E.J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction.
